For the last several weeks, our German Shepard, Hank, has been slowing down. I actually thought this last winter would have done him in but he surprised me. However... The last few days, he refused food and barely drank any water. We knew his time was coming to an end. My buddy Hank lost the battle over night last night. He was just a bit over 11 years old and from what I have read, that is a long time for his breed, which is estimated to be about 9 years.
Hank was big, even for his breed. The AKC says they weigh between 66 to 88 pounds. He peaked around 115 pounds and none of it was fat. He lost weight in the last few weeks, so things were becoming evident. It's not the first time we lost a dog. My Rotties lasted 9 to 11 years as well. Still, it's not an easy thing to deal with.
So, here's to Hank the Wonder Dog. he is in a better place and his allergies won't bother him any more.
