It is also a favorite among adults because it is a very sturdy and accurate varmint gun. The machine opens like a clam for service via two huge hydraulic cylinders. If you look at the right side of the rotor, you might see some of the damage from the hammer. There is a lot more that was yet to be discovered.</p><p>The top opened and more damage is visible. The housing is split apart and many welds are broken out. Other damage like 1-1/4" thick plate was bent and warped. Old repairs broke apart like they were never there.</p><p>And here it is today... My crew and I pulled this beast out of the building to ship out for repairs. Even with the feed hopper and the motor removed, it was still too heavy for the fork lift... A Caterpillar 155. (15,500 # capacity)</p><p>This is the monster that I used to remove the grinder... those forks are 8 feet long folks. It's a pretty big machine in itself.</p><p>Just for comparison, the big Cat next to a typical 4000# fork lift that you might see in any warehouse. Makes it look like a toy.</p><p>Out among the multitude of pond liners to be recycled, the crane is preparing to lift the grinder off the trailer.</p><p>The grinder, as it arrived on the truck. This is no lightweight at 18,000#</p><p>And there it is, just outside the same room all the activity has been centered around. The crane couldn't put it inside, so that fork lift will have to do the job. Only it will have to be a bigger one than the Cat 155. I have driven these before and it was almost like going home again. The tank section weighs about 4500 pounds and the machine is rated for 10000. But because of the angles, that limit comes down pretty quickly. As it worked out, we were approaching the limit but stayed within the safety margins enough that it never got uncomfortable.</p><p>There it is, hanging on the slings from the forks. Slow going to avoid any herky-jerky motions. The old CAT wasn't as smooth operating as the ones I have piloted before and it took a little getting used to. </p><p>Set in place... My help tightening down the flange. (I know... That's not the right ladder but he used it anyway). In case you are wondering, that box on the side is a weather shelter for the internal access hatch and the controls for the pneumatic blast nozzles. Inside, there are a bunch of filter socks about 15 feet long. The blast shakes the dust off the surfaces so they continue to function without plugging up.</p><p>And there is is, from the other side. That big hole at the top is for yet another pipe, a 12" one, that will go to a big blower down on the ground. That blower creates the vacuum, again, just like a vacuum cleaner, which pulls the dust into the collector. You can see the 8" and 6" pipes from the aspirator, which come through the wall from the inside.</p><p>This is the part that is inside. The guys that sold it to us had to pose with it.</p><p>OK, we got the catwalk hanging while we still had the big Cat. We'll get the rest of the bolts in tomorrow along with the ladder. I cut it into 18 pieces, 15-7/8 square with my trusty little plasma torch. (That has got to be the coolest invention ever created for cutting things)</p><p>Next was to start gluing them up. Actually, welding them together. A little TIG torch, a bottle of argon and an old buzz box. Surprising - it actually works.</p><p>All three with four sides now. I started marking where the pipe connections are going to be on the first one. No tops or bottoms yet, since I have to weld the fittings in from the inside first.</p><p>The tools of the trade</p><p>First one finished. still need to leak test but I really don't think it will leak.<br /> It holds 17.3 gallons but we will only run it at about 13 or 14 gallons in the circulation loop. That little 10X zoom is nice.</p><p>I think he was trying to get away from the Missus for a little bit but she was not going to let him get too far.</p><p>The water is only a couple of feet deep in this area.
